Ask a newcomer what happens in Kuna in August and you might hear "the parade." Ask someone who has lived here through a few summers and you get a calendar. The town does not spread its late-summer programming evenly across the month. It clusters it, on purpose, into a rhythm that starts loud, goes quiet for a week, then builds back toward Labor Day.
The thesis, if you want it in one line: August in Kuna is a two-peak month, and the quiet stretch in between is when the food scene actually gets your attention.

Kuna Days weekend does most of the heavy lifting
The Kuna Chamber schedules its annual celebration on the first weekend of August, with live music, a mullet contest, food vendors, a parade, and fireworks. The city layers two of its own events on top of that: the Down 'N Dirty Mud Run and the Cornhole Tournament. If you have kids under twelve, the mud run is the one to build the day around. It runs at 11 AM to 12:30 PM on the second day of Kuna Days, immediately after the parade, on the Kuna BMX Track at 351 W 2nd Street, with most roads closed for the parade, so walking in is the plan.
The cornhole tournament is a different vibe. Saturday, August 1st, 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, at the Kuna Days Festival Grounds, with the top five places paid. Bring a partner who can actually throw. This is not a "casual toss in the yard" bracket.
At night, the music shifts to Bernie Fisher Park. EpicUnion is back at Kuna Days on August 1st at 8:00 PM. The park is the same one that hosts the Moonlight Movies, so if you already know where you set up the chairs for July's showing, you know where you're headed.
The bridge week, or why locals eat well in August
The Friday after Kuna Days through the following Wednesday is the quietest stretch of the month. Nothing on the city calendar. This is when the restaurant scene earns its keep, and it has genuinely improved. Last year's Yelp leaderboard for Kuna leans on a short list that most residents can rattle off from memory.
Where to eat when there's no event pulling you somewhere
- River Six, at 11650 Courage Ln inside the Trilogy at Valor community. It leans on wood-fired pizzas, craft beer, and cocktails, with locally sourced ingredients, and the name references the six rivers feeding the Snake in the Treasure Valley. Reviewers keep pointing to the lake and golf course views from the seating area. It is not a downtown walk-in place. Plan the drive.
- Enrique's Mexican Restaurant and Lima Limon for the two ends of Latin American food in town. Lima Limon is Peruvian, which is genuinely unusual for a city this size.
- Big Mic's for burgers, and now for breakfast burritos and a fried chicken sandwich.
- Riceworks Sushi & Asian Fusion Steakhouse, downtown, a full-service sit-down spot with sushi, steaks, stir-fry, sake, and craft cocktails. This is your rainy-Tuesday answer.
- The Southern for a night out. Comedy Night at The Southern featuring JJ Alexander is the kind of programming that used to require a drive to Boise.
Two afternoons that don't require a ticket
The Kuna Greenbelt behind City Hall is the default weekday walk. The Kuna Historical Society and the Kuna Arts and History Center are running the "When the Tents Came to Kuna: Chautauqua in the 1920s" history exhibit alongside the Twila Kadel solo art exhibit from July 24 through October 2, 2026. Twenty minutes, air conditioned, free. If you have a guest asking what Kuna was before it was suburban, this is the honest answer.

The August 14 double-header
Mid-month the city stacks two events on the same Thursday. Popsicles With The Mayor is on August 14, 2026, with the Moonlight Movie showing of Lilo & Stitch that same evening. Moonlight Movies run 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Bernie Fisher Park. Bring a blanket. The grass is dry by then and the mosquitos are usually done.
If you missed the June and July movies, this is the last one of the summer series. The final scheduled outdoor screening for the year is the Spooky Movie Night showing of The Nightmare Before Christmas on October 9, and by then you will want a jacket.
A quick note on how the city runs these. Pets are welcome on leash, owners clean up, and horses not affiliated with official city events are not allowed. Every year someone tests that last rule. Don't be that person.
The payoff weekend: Stampede, expanded
The last big thing before school locks the calendar down is the rodeo, and 2026 is the year it changed shape. The Kuna Stampede Rodeo is now three days, September 3 through 5, 2026, at the Crooked 8 Event Center. It was two nights for most of its history. The rodeo has been rooted in Kuna for over 74 years, and it operates as a non-profit.
The expansion matters for two reasons. First, Mutton Bustin' entries are open for young riders, which is one of the most popular family-friendly events of the rodeo, and adding a night means more slots. Second, three nights is enough programming that out-of-town family can actually plan a weekend around it. Two nights was a "come Saturday" trip. Three is a real visit.

A one-pager for the relative who is staying with you for a long weekend in August:
- Saturday morning: coffee, then the Kuna Greenbelt walk behind City Hall.
- Saturday lunch: River Six on the Valor side of town.
- Saturday afternoon: Cabalo Orchards & Gardens or Lowe Family Farmstead depending on whether the kids want animals or produce.
- Saturday evening: pick your event. Kuna Days first weekend, movie in the park the second, rodeo on Labor Day weekend.
- Sunday: Indian Creek Winery, if there is live music that day.
- Anytime you need dinner and don't want to think: Riceworks downtown or Big Mic's for burgers.
The point of all this
You already live here. What you are choosing between in August is not "should I do something in Kuna," it is "which weekend do I save for what." The city has already made that call for you by clustering the calendar around August 1 and August 14 and then handing the season off to the Stampede. The gap in the middle is not empty. It's where the restaurants finally get a fair look and where the Greenbelt is at its best hour, right around 7:30 PM when the light gets long.
